Cairo, August 03 (QNA):The State of Qatar participated in the Second International Conference to Combat Discrimination Against Islam and Muslims, which opened Monday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
Held under the theme “Islamophobia: Concept and Practice in the Current Global Context,” the two-day conference brings together representatives from governments, regional and international organizations, religious institutions and civil society groups to discuss ways to counter hate speech and promote tolerance.
Qatar is represented at the conference by Dr. Yousef Al Siddiqi, Member of the Board of Directors of the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID), and Amna Abdulrahman Al Sulaiti from Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the Arab League.
The conference focuses on the role of religious institutions, Islamic centers, educational organizations and civil society in strengthening moderate discourse, encouraging acceptance of others and combating all forms of religious discrimination.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al Siddiqi said the conference provides an important platform to exchange views, listen to different perspectives and convey the true image of Islam and Muslims, especially amid the growing influence of technology and social media.
He highlighted DICID’s efforts in promoting interfaith dialogue and Qatar’s commitment to Islamic studies through a scientific and values-based approach.
The conference also features the establishment of a permanent multilateral platform to enhance cooperation among institutions and transform recommendations into practical initiatives supporting dialogue, coexistence and respect for cultural and religious diversity.
