Doha, September 01 (QNA) – Qatar has intensified contacts with regional and international partners to halt Israeli occupation violations, warning against efforts to impose a new regional reality through a policy of hegemony rather than genuine security considerations.
Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remarks during the ministry’s weekly media briefing.
He said there was a clear effort to impose a new reality across the region and urged countries, international partners and peace-loving nations to closely follow developments and take concrete measures to hold Israel accountable for its actions.
Dr Al Ansari said many Israeli occupation actions could not be justified by the war in the Gaza Strip or the military escalation witnessed across the region in recent months. He pointed to attempts to create changes in Syria, the West Bank and Jerusalem.
He said Qatar had repeatedly warned that Israel was seeking to exploit regional tensions to introduce strategic and dangerous changes affecting the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.
Qatar is working with its partners through the Arab-Islamic group and wider regional and international partnerships to end Israeli violations, he said. Doha’s position remains firm in rejecting impunity for violations committed against the Palestinian people and their cause.
Commenting on Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani’s visit to Iran, Dr Al Ansari said the visit formed part of continuing diplomatic contacts, following visits to Tehran by officials from Oman and Pakistan.
The visits seek to support mediation efforts, restore negotiations and prevent renewed escalation, he said. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s firm support for diplomatic solutions, while consultations with mediation partners in Oman and Pakistan continue.
Dr Al Ansari said Qatar had warned from the outset about the consequences of leaving the crisis unresolved. He cautioned that treating the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as a fait accompli could result in further escalation, affecting all sides.
Qatar, in coordination with its mediation partners, is continuing efforts to restore negotiations and calling on all parties to exercise restraint and give priority to political solutions.
He stressed that the impact of the escalation had extended beyond the region, affecting countries worldwide and important sectors including pharmaceuticals and energy. Qatar is working with its partners toward a peaceful settlement that would facilitate reopening the strait and strengthen regional security and stability.
On Libya, Dr Al Ansari said Qatar remained committed to supporting the aspirations of the Libyan people and efforts to build a stable and inclusive state. He said Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khulaifi’s visit was part of Qatar’s continuing support for a political solution and greater consensus among Libya’s parties.
Qatar supports a “Libyan-Libyan” solution and believes the international community should assist Libyans in reaching an agreement, he said.
