DOHA, Qatar, August 14: QSindhis celebrated Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with the QSindhis Azaadi Cup 2026, bringing together cricket enthusiasts, community members and dignitaries in a spirited display of patriotism, unity and community fellowship.
Held on Friday, August 14, the event combined an energetic indoor cricket tournament with Independence Day celebrations, creating a vibrant atmosphere of sportsmanship and national pride. The occasion also carried special significance as 2026 marks the 150th birth anniversary year of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Founder of Pakistan.
The event was attended by Mr. Mohsin Raza Qureshi, Counsellor (Community Welfare Affairs), Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Doha, whose presence added significance to the celebrations and reflected the Embassy’s engagement with the Pakistani community in Qatar.
During the gathering, Mr. Qureshi conveyed the appreciation and best wishes of the Ambassador of Pakistan to the QSindhis community and praised its efforts to promote unity, positive engagement and stronger community ties among Pakistanis living in Qatar.
A cake-cutting ceremony was held as part of the Independence Day celebrations, with Mr. Mohsin Raza Qureshi joining members of the QSindhis Core Committee and community representatives. The ceremony reflected the shared spirit of patriotism and pride in Pakistan’s independence.
The main sporting attraction of the day was the QSindhis Azaadi Cup 2026, which featured an enthusiastic indoor cricket competition. Teams competed in a friendly but highly competitive environment, with players demonstrating skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Adding further excitement to the event, Mr. Mohsin Raza Qureshi also took part in the tournament as a player. His participation was warmly welcomed by the players and organizers and helped create a stronger sense of camaraderie between the Embassy representative and members of the Pakistani community.

The celebrations also highlighted Sindh’s historic contribution to the Pakistan Movement. Sindh occupies a distinguished place in Pakistan’s history, as the Sindh Legislative Assembly became the first legislature in British India to pass a resolution in support of the creation of Pakistan in 1943.
QSindhis seeks to carry forward this historic legacy by promoting patriotism, community service, cultural heritage and unity among Sindhis and Pakistanis residing in Qatar.
