VIENTIANE, June 22 – At 8:25 a.m. local time on June 22, the newly reorganized K12 regular-speed passenger train with an additional baggage car departed from Vientiane Station, marking the first regular operation of baggage and parcel transport services on the Lao section of the China-Laos Railway.
The operation signifies that the section has moved beyond the mixed passenger and freight model, with transport efficiency and service quality upgraded.
According to Laos-China Railway Co. Ltd. (LCRC), which operates the Lao section, baggage and parcel transport previously relied mainly on spare seats on K11 and K12 trains. This could not meet growing demand and affected passenger experience.
To address this, LCRC introduced a dedicated baggage car for regular operation, more than doubling transport capacity within Laos.
The service will cover key stations along the Lao section. LCRC will monitor the process in accordance with railway transport regulations.
The initiative is expected to improve logistics efficiency, strengthen passenger convenience, and enhance operational performance of the China-Laos Railway.
