Sydney: Hollywood actor Rebel Wilson has been accused in court of presenting a “complete revision of history” as closing arguments were delivered in a defamation case brought by Australian actress Charlotte MacInnes.
MacInnes, who appears in Wilson’s film The Deb, is suing over Instagram posts made in 2024 and 2025, which she claims damaged her reputation.
Wilson alleges MacInnes withdrew a sexual harassment complaint against a film producer in exchange for professional benefits. MacInnes denies making such a complaint.
The court examined a September 2023 incident involving MacInnes and producer Amanda Ghost at Bondi Beach, followed by time at Ghost’s apartment, including both women sitting in a bath while wearing swimsuits.
Wilson’s legal team said she acted after being told MacInnes felt uncomfortable, while MacInnes’s lawyers called Wilson’s claims false and misleading.
In closing submissions, MacInnes’s counsel accused Wilson of altering events and making claims that “defy logic”, describing her account as distorted.
Wilson’s defence rejected the allegations, saying MacInnes’s career has progressed since the posts and benefited professionally from the situation.
The court also heard bullying allegations, which Wilson denies.
Justice Elizabeth Raper has reserved her decision. Wilson faces separate related cases in Australia and the US.
