Moscow, April 10 (Xinhua) – Russia on Friday condemned the United States’ energy embargo against Cuba and reaffirmed its support for the island nation, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
During political consultations held in Havana on Thursday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov criticized the US economic, trade, financial blockade, and energy restrictions imposed on Cuba.
The ministry said Russia reiterated its commitment to providing necessary support to Cuba, including material assistance, while strengthening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Both sides also reaffirmed their opposition to unilateral coercive measures, interference in sovereign states’ internal affairs, and the use of force to remove governments deemed “undesirable.”
The statement added that Moscow and Havana share common positions on resisting external pressure and promoting respect for national sovereignty in international relations.
The consultations reflected continued efforts to deepen strategic dialogue and expand cooperation between Russia and Cuba amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
