MOSCOW: Russia’s Armed Forces carried out what the Defense Ministry called a large-scale retaliatory strike targeting military-industrial facilities and fuel and energy infrastructure in Kyiv and surrounding regions.
The ministry said the operation used long-range precision weapons from air, land and sea platforms, along with drones targeting infrastructure supporting Ukraine’s military capabilities.
It said targets included RadioNix LLC, which produces control systems for missile systems, and ATLON AVIA Research and Production Company LLC, a supplier of long-range drones used by Ukrainian forces.
Military airfield infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions was also struck, it added.
Earlier, Kursk Governor Alexander Khinshtein said Russian air defenses intercepted 158 Ukrainian drones in 24 hours, along with multiple explosive drone attacks.
Ukrainian authorities reported heavy casualties in Kyiv. At least 13 people were killed and 86 injured, officials said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 70 injured were hospitalized, while more than 30 locations were damaged across the city.
Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said over 20 residential buildings were hit, including a partially destroyed nine-story block in Darnytskyi district.
About 500 responders and nearly 100 equipment units remain deployed as rescue operations continue.
