KYIV/MOSCOW: At least 17 people were killed and dozens injured after Russian missile and drone strikes targeted Kyiv and surrounding areas overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Wednesday.
Ukraine’s State Service for Emergencies reported damage to warehouses, logistics centers, commercial facilities and industrial sites, with most casualties recorded in the Kyiv region. Officials said 16 people were killed and 30 others wounded in the region, while Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported one death and 26 injuries in the capital.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 115 drones, 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and four Zircon/Oniks missiles during the overnight attacks.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces carried out a large-scale strike against transport and logistics facilities in Kyiv and nearby areas. It claimed the targets included locations used for storing and distributing drone components, robotic systems, electronic warfare equipment and other military-related supplies.
The ministry also said three Ukrainian cargo vessels carrying military equipment were hit in the Black Sea south of Odesa, while two unmanned surface vessels were destroyed near Ochakiv.
