KYIV, July 16: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held talks in Kyiv on Thursday, focusing on military cooperation, battlefield developments, and continued support for Ukraine amid the conflict with Russia.
Zelenskyy said the meeting marked Starmer’s fourth visit to Ukraine since taking office and their 46th official contact, highlighting close coordination between the two leaders.
The discussions covered frontline developments, Ukraine’s long-range and mid-range strike capabilities, and future defense cooperation. Zelenskyy said Ukraine had made significant progress in strengthening its military capabilities and would continue coordinating closely with Britain.
The Ukrainian president thanked the United Kingdom for providing more than £11 billion in assistance, including nearly £8 billion in military aid. The support includes air defense systems, surface-to-air missiles, and other defense equipment.
Zelenskyy also praised the recently signed 100-year UK Ukraine partnership agreement, describing it as a symbol of Britain’s long-term commitment to Ukraine’s independence and security. He also commended London’s sanctions against Russia.
Although Starmer recently announced his resignation, both leaders reaffirmed that British support for Ukraine would continue. Zelenskyy said Kyiv had received assurances that the United Kingdom’s military, political, and strategic commitment would remain unchanged during the leadership transition.
