Swiss authorities confirm Bürgenstock venue as mediators advance diplomatic efforts
GENEVA, June 16 — Switzerland has confirmed that a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be signed on Friday at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland, marking a significant step in ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said it has been in close contact with the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar regarding preparations for the planned signing. According to FDFA spokesperson Pierre-Alain Eltschinger, the event is currently scheduled for June 19 in the canton of Nidwalden.
Swiss officials said the Bürgenstock venue was proposed jointly by Pakistani and Qatari mediators, as well as representatives of the United States and Iran. Switzerland is facilitating the process by providing the diplomatic and logistical conditions necessary for the meeting to take place on Swiss territory.
The Swiss government did not disclose details of the memorandum or the format of the signing ceremony. Officials said no further information regarding the agreement or procedural arrangements could be provided at this stage.
The planned signing is being closely watched as a potentially important development in efforts to ease tensions and advance dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
