Tokyo, February 18 (QNA) – Japan’s House of Representatives reelected Sanae Takaichi as prime minister in parliament today, ten days after her Liberal Democratic Party’s historic landslide victory in the general election held on Feb. 8.
Before the start of the 150-day session, Takaichi’s Cabinet resigned en masse, as required by the constitution.
She is set to form a new Cabinet later in the day, with all ministers set to retain their positions.
The lower house election gave a boost to Takaichi and her party toward delivering on their policies, including her expansionary fiscal measures.
Takaichi, known for her hawkish views on defense and security, expressed readiness to work toward amending the pacifist constitution, the Liberal Democratic Party’s long-held goal.
