SAN FRANCISCO: US electric vehicle maker Tesla is reportedly set to launch its Cybercab robotaxi on Sept. 3 in Austin, Texas, according to Tesla-focused news outlet Teslarati.
The outlet said it received an invitation to the event, although Tesla has not publicly confirmed the date.
The launch is expected to highlight both the new vehicle and Tesla’s development of purpose-built autonomous driving technology.
The Cybercab is designed without a steering wheel or pedals and relies on self-driving software for near-full autonomy. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously said the company plans to sell the vehicle to private customers for less than 30,000 US dollars.
First unveiled in October 2024, the Cybercab is central to Tesla’s robotaxi ambitions. It is expected to operate alongside Model Y vehicles, which have been used for autonomous passenger rides in real-world conditions.
Tech publication The Information reported that Tesla plans to initially offer Cybercab rides to employees on public roads before integrating the vehicles into its commercial robotaxi service.
The launch would mark another step in Tesla’s push into autonomous driving and its broader artificial intelligence strategy.
