MIRPUR (AJK), April 27: At least three persons were killed and two others seriously injured when an over-speeding three-wheeler rickshaw (MR-VB 895) overturned at Lakha Singh Mor while negotiating a sharp turn on the Mirpur–Chechiyan Road on Monday morning, police said.
According to police sources, the deceased included rickshaw driver Rashid Riaz, Muhammad Riaz of Pindi Sabbarwal, Murshid son of Allah Ditta, and Irshad Bibi wife of Khan Bahoo. The injured were identified as Allah Ditta son of Muhammad Ramzan and Parveen Bibi wife of Allah Ditta.
The injured were shifted to Mirpur District Headquarters Hospital where they are receiving medical treatment. Hospital sources described the condition of some injured as serious.
Local residents said the Lakha Singh Mor has become a highly dangerous point due to its sharp curve, terming it a “death bend” where multiple accidents have already occurred in the past.
They urged authorities to take urgent safety measures, including road redesign, warning signage, and speed control mechanisms, to prevent further loss of life. Residents also demanded the construction of an alternative safer route, saying the current alignment poses a permanent risk to commuters on this busy road.
Police have initiated further investigation into the accident.
