WASHINGTON / ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of repeatedly violating a recently brokered ceasefire, raising fresh concerns ahead of a planned second round of negotiations expected in Pakistan this week.
In a statement posted on his platform Truth Social, Trump said Iran had breached the truce “numerous times,” casting doubt on the durability of the agreement reached earlier this month. The 14-day ceasefire, facilitated by Pakistan on April 8, is set to expire on Wednesday, with uncertainty surrounding any possible extension.
The ceasefire followed a sharp escalation in hostilities after joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, which prompted retaliatory actions by Tehran targeting Israel and locations hosting US assets in the region.
Pakistan hosted the first round of talks on April 11–12, playing a key mediating role in easing tensions. Preparations are now underway in Islamabad for a second round, though Iran’s participation has yet to be confirmed.
The US delegation is expected to be led again by Vice President JD Vance.
