Beijing – US President Donald Trump on Wednesday began a three-day state visit to China, arriving in Beijing for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping amid global tensions and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Trump was received with a guard of honor at Beijing Capital International Airport after Air Force One landed. Vice President Han Zheng welcomed him at the airport, where a military band and youth delegation were also present. The visit marks the first by a sitting US president to China in nine years.
After arrival, Trump proceeded to his hotel and had no official engagements scheduled until Thursday. On Thursday, he will meet President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People for summit-level talks.
Key issues include the Middle East conflict, Iran-related developments, Taiwan, trade disputes, tariffs, and technology restrictions. Trump said he will raise arms sales to Taiwan and the case of imprisoned Hong Kong media figure Jimmy Lai. China said talks will focus on major issues concerning bilateral relations and global peace.
Trump is accompanied by senior officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, along with several top business leaders such as Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Tim Cook, Larry Fink, and others from major US corporations.
The visit comes amid Middle East tensions following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, though a ceasefire is currently in effect. China has called for dialogue, while Washington has accused Beijing of supporting Iran. The trip reflects strained US-China relations over tariffs, technology, and rare earth exports.
