Ankara, May 11 — Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday strongly condemned a deadly attack targeting a police station in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, expressing solidarity with Islamabad in its fight against terrorism.
In a statement, the ministry conveyed condolences for those killed in the incident, saying Türkiye mourns the victims and extends sympathy to their families as well as to the people of Pakistan.
“Türkiye will continue to stand in solidarity with Pakistan in its fight against all forms and manifestations of terrorism,” the statement said.
According to local media reports, at least 15 police officers were killed in a combined gun and bomb attack in the Bannu District on Saturday night. The assault is described as one of the deadliest recent incidents targeting security forces.
Reports said the attack began when a suspected suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a police checkpoint, followed by gunfire and additional explosions carried out by armed assailants.
City police chief Sajjad Khan confirmed that three other officers were injured in the attack.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in militant violence in recent years, with many attacks attributed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, which Islamabad says operates from Afghan territory. Afghanistan has denied these allegations.
