Foreign ministers from 12 countries have strongly condemned Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud humanitarian aid flotilla, calling it a “flagrant violation of international law,” according to a joint statement reported by Anadolu Agency.
The statement was issued by Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia, the Maldives, Mauritania, South Africa, and Libya. It described the flotilla as a peaceful civilian initiative highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The ministers said the attack on the vessels and the detention of activists in international waters violated international law and humanitarian law. They expressed concern over the safety of those detained and called for their immediate release.
The joint statement urged Israeli authorities to ensure protection of civilians and respect humanitarian principles. It also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by ensuring accountability and safeguarding civilian lives.
Officials stressed humanitarian efforts must not be obstructed and emphasized protecting aid missions in international waters.
The response reflects growing international concern over Gaza and calls for adherence to international norms and protection of humanitarian initiatives.
