LONDON: The United Kingdom on Thursday announced new sanctions against Russia, adding 19 individuals, entities and vessels to its sanctions list over alleged support for Moscow and involvement in Russian energy trade.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said the measures target six Russian financial institutions, including banks facing asset freezes and restrictions on financial services.
The sanctions also include companies linked to Russia’s energy sector and firms accused of supplying goods or technology that could contribute to instability in Ukraine. Several individuals were also added to the list, facing asset freezes, travel restrictions and other measures.
Six vessels, including the Arctic Express, were sanctioned over allegedly transporting Russian liquefied natural gas, oil and petroleum products to third countries. The ships are prohibited from entering UK ports and from receiving technical, operational or financial services.
The UK government said the latest measures are part of continued efforts to increase pressure on Russia and restrict activities connected to its energy sector and international networks.
