Doha, May 9, 2026 — Salah Khaled, Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha for the Gulf States and Yemen, praised the strong partnership between United Nations agencies in Doha and the National Human Rights Committee, describing the cooperation as a successful model for advancing human rights and sustainable development initiatives in Qatar and the wider region.

Speaking with the Editor-in-Chief of Rahbar Kisan International on the sidelines of the consultative meeting organized by the National Human Rights Committee with UN agencies and offices in Doha, Khaled said the collaboration between the committee and UN agencies has reached an advanced level marked by effective coordination and shared objectives.

He explained that the meeting aimed to establish a future roadmap for cooperation projects and joint activities based on the National Human Rights Committee’s Strategic Plan and Qatar National Vision 2030. The discussions focused on aligning priorities and developing clear strategies and action plans that can serve not only Qatar but also contribute to regional and international efforts in the field of human rights.

Khaled said the gathering provided an important platform for UN agencies and the committee to exchange perspectives and strengthen institutional coordination in response to evolving global challenges and ongoing international crises. He stressed that the partnership between the United Nations and the National Human Rights Committee is already firmly established and that the current consultations represent an effort to further realign and enhance cooperation in light of changing global realities.

He noted that emerging humanitarian and international challenges have created new opportunities for collaboration between UN agencies and national institutions, particularly in areas related to human rights, sustainable development, and social protection.

Highlighting the active role of UN agencies in Qatar, Khaled said several successful joint initiatives have already been implemented with government institutions and national partners across multiple sectors. These include cooperation in education with the Ministry of Education, as well as collaborative efforts involving environmental sustainability and human rights programs.

He described human rights cooperation as one of the clearest examples of successful partnership between Qatar and the United Nations system, reaffirming the commitment of UN agencies in Doha to further strengthen joint work and expand future programs.

Khaled also expressed appreciation for the humanitarian and development role played by the Government of Qatar through its continued support for countries around the world in partnership with UN agencies. He said Qatar’s international assistance and humanitarian contributions represent an important pillar of global cooperation and an area where stronger partnerships can continue to grow in the years ahead.

He emphasized that the United Nations agencies in Doha remain committed to deepening cooperation with Qatar and the National Human Rights Committee in order to promote human dignity, support sustainable development goals, and strengthen the protection of human rights at regional and international levels.
