TASHKENT: Uzbekistan has introduced an expanded Tax Free system aimed at attracting more international visitors, promoting shopping tourism, and supporting the country’s economic growth.
Under the new regulations effective from April 1, 2026, foreign tourists can reclaim up to 90 percent of the Value Added Tax (VAT) paid on eligible purchases made in Uzbekistan. The updated system is now available at all international airports, with refunds provided either in cash before departure or through transfer to a bank card or account within three working days after the goods are exported.
The reforms have removed the previous minimum purchase requirement and expanded the range of eligible products, while food items remain excluded. Travelers can apply by registering through the Soliq mobile application, scanning purchase receipts, and presenting their boarding pass, identification documents, and purchased goods at Tax Free counters before departure.
Officials said the enhanced Tax Free programme would strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a shopping and tourism destination, improve the visitor experience, increase tourist spending, and contribute to the continued growth of the country’s tourism sector.
The initiative is part of Uzbekistan’s broader efforts to modernize tourism services, simplify travel procedures, and create a more convenient experience for international visitors.
