Washington: US Vice President JD Vance said the United States will use military, economic and diplomatic measures to bring the conflict with Iran to a resolution, while expressing hope that negotiations will ultimately succeed.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance acknowledged difficulties in talks with Tehran, describing Iran’s political system as divided, with some seeking an end to the conflict while others favour continued confrontation.
He said the US administration’s objective is to secure the best outcome for the American people and voiced confidence that a settlement, although likely to take time, would eventually be achieved.
Vance reiterated that the United States would use “all the tools” at its disposal to ensure Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon and to reach what he described as the right resolution.
His remarks came as tensions persist around the Strait of Hormuz following recent military exchanges between Washington and Tehran.
US President Donald Trump also said he preferred a diplomatic agreement with Iran but maintained that military action would remain an option if negotiations failed.
Talks between the two countries have stalled over disagreements on security guarantees and freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
