BUERGENSTOCK, Switzerland, June 22 – U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and global energy flows are continuing without disruption. He said the mechanism to keep the Strait open is working, with crude oil and natural gas flowing steadily through the waterway.
He added that energy prices have declined and millions of barrels of oil and gas continue to move through the Strait following recent tensions. He said the Iranians have agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to return, describing it as a major milestone for nuclear transparency.
Vance said talks between the United States and Iran in Buergenstock, Switzerland, continue under mediation from Qatar and Pakistan, marking progress in diplomatic engagement. The discussions follow the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which called for an immediate end to hostilities and a framework for peace negotiations within 60 days.
He said technical-level talks will continue in the coming days and weeks as negotiators work toward a final agreement on nuclear and economic issues. Vance added that the discussions lay the foundation for a potential comprehensive deal, while noting that further work is needed on demining efforts and ensuring secure maritime routes.
