HANOI: Vietnam has welcomed China’s decision to include Vietnamese citizens in its 240-hour visa-free transit program and 30-day visa-free entry policy for Hainan Province, effective Thursday.
Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said Vietnam would continue working with China on the issue of possible visa exemptions for Chinese citizens, in the spirit of facilitating travel and trade between the two countries.
Under China’s new policy, Vietnamese and Kyrgyz citizens holding ordinary passports and interline passenger tickets with confirmed dates and itineraries bound for a third country or region can enter China through any of 65 ports across the country and stay for up to 240 hours, or 10 days, without a visa.
Citizens of the two countries holding ordinary passports will also be eligible for the 30-day visa-free entry policy for Hainan Province in south China. They can enter the province through its open ports and stay visa-free for up to 30 days.
The measures are effective from Aug. 20 and provide eligible Vietnamese and Kyrgyz travelers greater flexibility when visiting China.
