BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted a welcome banquet for US President Donald Trump at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during Trump’s state visit to China.
Addressing the banquet, President Xi described China-US relations as the world’s most important bilateral relationship and stressed the need to maintain stability and cooperation between the two global powers. He said both nations benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation, emphasizing that China and the United States should act as partners rather than rivals in global affairs.
Xi noted that both sides agreed to build a constructive relationship based on strategic stability to support the steady and sustainable development of bilateral ties while contributing to global peace, prosperity, economic growth, and long-term international progress.
Highlighting the significance of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, Xi said the future of China-US relations affects not only the people of both countries but also the wider international community. President Trump described the discussions as positive and constructive. He said the US-China relationship remains the most consequential bilateral partnership in the world and called for stronger cooperation between the two countries to help create a better future globally.
