KIEV, June 28: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukrainian forces carried out overnight strikes on two oil refineries inside Russia, targeting key energy infrastructure supporting Moscow’s war effort.
In a post on X, Zelensky said one target was the Slavyansk oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, located around 300 kilometres from the frontline. Local media reported the facility has an annual processing capacity of about four million tons of oil.
He added that another refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, nearly 700 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, was also hit, though he did not provide further operational details.
Zelensky said the strikes were intended to weaken Russia’s capacity to sustain its military operations. “Each of our long-range sanctions reduces resources feeding Russia’s war machine and brings us closer to peace,” he wrote according to statement shared online platforms.
