MIRPUR (AJK): Sept 27: Member of the newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, lower house of tge State Parliament Ms. Sahraish Qamar on Sunday welcomed Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, saying he effectively highlighted Pakistan’s principled positions on Kashmir, water rights, terrorism, Palestine and global and regional peace.
Talking to this Correspondent here, she said the prime minister forcefully presented Pakistan’s key national and international issues before the international community, particularly the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people, the Indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan’s water rights in the context of Indian actions.
Sahraish Qamar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that water must not be used as a weapon and any attempt to stop, obstruct or divert Pakistan’s share of water would be considered an act of war. She added that raising the Kashmir dispute at the UN in accordance with relevant resolutions and the right to self-determination represented a continuation of Pakistan’s longstanding policy.
She said Pakistan would continue its diplomatic, political and moral support for the Kashmiri people until they achieved their right to self-determination. She also appreciated the prime minister’s stance on Palestine, saying the international community must play a practical role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and finding a just solution to the longstanding Palestinian issue.
She said the prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. She also noted that he highlighted Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, including nearly 100,000 lives lost and economic losses exceeding $150 billion, while calling for verifiable and decisive measures to end terrorism against Pakistan emanating from Afghan soil.
Sahraish Qamar said the prime minister’s UN address reflected Pakistan’s desire for peace, dialogue, diplomacy and just solutions rather than war and confrontation. She added that the Kashmiri people valued his unequivocal stance on national Kashmir cause and expected Pakistan to continue highlighting the Kashmir issue forcefully at all relevant international forums.
