MIRPUR (AJK), Sept. 11: Notables led by former Staff Officer to the AJK President Ejaz Saleem called on newly inducted Acting Vice Chancellor of the Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab, on Friday and congratulated him on assuming office.
The delegation included Colonel (Retd) Raja Iftikhar Hussain, Commissioners (Retd) Sardar Khalid Mahmood and Raja Fazal ur Rehman, Deputy Commissioner (Retd) Farooq Akram Khan, Raja Kaleemullah Khan (Retd), MDA Director, and former banker Raja Naseem Mahmood Khan.
The delegation members said the younger generation was the country’s real asset and the future of the nation was in their hands. They said the country’s destiny could be transformed by providing young people with a conducive environment for quality teaching, research, extracurricular and healthy activities and by making full use of their capabilities.
They observed that during the past five years, students and faculty members had resorted to strikes because their legitimate demands were not accepted, severely affecting academic and administrative affairs and resulting in a significant decline in admissions.
However, they said fundamental reforms had been introduced in the university’s academic and administrative sectors following the appointment of the sitting Vice Chancellor, including merit-based appointments of professionals. These measures, they added, had improved the university’s overall performance and led to a substantial increase in new admissions.
The delegation expressed satisfaction over the overall improvement in university affairs, conveyed their best wishes to the Vice Chancellor and assured him of their full cooperation.
The delegation also commended Dr. Anwar Khattab for his resolve to ensure quality education and take MUST to the level of international rankings, describing the vision as a matter of great honour for the entire region of Azad Kashmir.
