Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar launches a poetry book of Doha-based poetess

Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar, oldest literary organization (established in 1959) dedicated to promoting of Urdu language and literature, hosted the launch of the poetry collection Arzoo ka dia” by Doha-based poetess, Samreen Nadeem Samar. The event took place at the DusitD2 Salwa Doha. This is a second of her poetry book.
Samreen Nadeem Samar’s latest poetry collection, ‘Arzoo ka dia,’ was unveiled to a sophisticated audience, who gathered to celebrate poet’s artistic contributions. The ceremony was graced by the presence of The Ambassador of Pakistan to Qatar HE Muhammad Aamir, who unveiled the book and addressed the audience with a reflection on the richness of Urdu literature. In his thoughtful remarks, HE the Ambassador spoke of the deep cultural and emotional associations the Urdu language fosters and stressed the role of literature in shaping identity and values. His eloquent tribute to the language and appreciation of Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar’s relentless efforts in nurturing it were met with admiration and applause.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Fayaz Bukhari Kamal.
The event’s proceedings were conducted by the noted writer and literary critic Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar’s Chairman Dr Faisal Hanif. He welcomed the guests, poets, and essayists and opened the event by reciting a poem by the great poet and maestro of Urdu Josh Malihabadi’s poem describing the beauty of Urdu language while two of Josh’s great granddaughters, daughters of well-known poet and writer Sheraz Ahmed Bakali, were sitting among the audiences. The presence of Josh’s family members added to the fineness of the event.
One of the highlights of the evening was the insightful essays presented by noted literary figures Shabbar Ali, Rana Anwar Ali, Farzana Safdar, Zeenat Lakhani, Riyaz Ahmed Bakali and Sheraz Ahmed Bakali,
The stage was graced by Abdul Rahman Nadeem, Professor Ghazanfar Ali, Irshad Ahmed, in addition to the above named essayists. Event was presided by the writer and poet Sheraz Ahmed Bakali while Samreen Nadeem Samar was the guest of honour.
Above named essayists presented their thoughts about the poetry collection and provided their perspective on Samreen’s poetry highlighting exploration of wide variety of poetic themes and the remarkable aspects of her poetry.
The poetic tribute given by Manzoor Azmi and Muzaffar Nayab further drew the audiences towards the fine characteristics of Samreen’s work.
Dr Faisal Hanif commented on the beauty of poetry and its ability to inspire and uplift. He emphasized the power of imagination in the context of art and specifically how imagination fuels poetry quoting examples of classic Urdu poets including Mir Taqi Mir, Ghalib, Aatish and many others, enabling poets to create vivid worlds and evoke powerful emotions and the process of engaging readers’ imaginations through language and metaphors, making poetry a deeply personal experience.
Dr Hanif expressed his views about Samreen’s poetry and the passion with which she has been through this literary journey. To illustrate the transformative power of passion in poetry, Dr Hanif recalled Mir Taqi Mir’s verse on Farhad, the fabled lover who carved mountains not by might, but through unrelenting passion. With this preamble, he invited Samreen Nadeem Samar to the stage.
Expressing her gratitude, Samreen extended thanks to the officials of Bazm for their support and the Urdu enthusiasts presented there. She recited select poems from her book, each met with enthusiastic applause. She also gave a brief account of her literary journey and her passion for literature that shaped her poetry.
The first segment of book launching ended on an interesting and compelling address by Bazm’s patron and literary enthusiast Abdul Rahman Nadeem whose support as a spouse has been central to Samreen’s literary achievements.
Following the book launch, the stage was set for a mushaira. Noted poets Shahzeb Shahab, Shabbar Ali, Farzana Safdar, Samreen Nadeem Samar, Fayaz Bukhari Kamal, Rana Anwar Ali, Jamshed Ansari, Muzaffar Nayab, Mansoor Azmi, Younus Azeem, Zeenat Lakhani, Alok Kumar Srivastava Shaz Jehani, and Sheraz Ahmed Bakali graced the stage and presented their poetic work. Audiences were thrilled by the beautiful poetry and poets’ expressive language. All the poets were hugely applauded for their artistic work.
In the end of the programme, Dr Faisal Hanif presented a note in English to thank the non-Urdu speaking relatives of the poetess. He summarised the programme and offered reflections on the unique sensibilities of Urdu poetry in comparison to English poetry, particularly in its imaginative and emotive capacities.
The event drew a large and diverse audience from Doha’s literary and cultural circles. Among those present were Bazm’s key officials, Shamsuddin Rahimi, Feroz Khan, Waseem Ahmed, and Afsar Asemi alongside distinguished guests like Mahmood Ahmed, Baber Malik, Haroon Rasheed, Naveed Ahmed, Liaquat Mallick, and Mohammed Jami. The presence of a large number of female Urdu enthusiasts further enlivened the gathering
Towards the end, Irshad Ahmed, Media Secretary of Bazm, offered a vote of thanks on behalf of the organisation, acknowledging the efforts of every participant, poet, and guest whose presence contributed to the success of the evening.
The book launch of ‘Aarzo ka dia’ and the poetry symposium brought together the vibrant community of Urdu lovers in Qatar, reaffirming the charm and delightfulness of poetry and literature in Qatar’s rich cultural landscape.
The evening concluded with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that Urdu poetry remains alive and cherished in the hearts of its admirers, thanks to the efforts of Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar and the gifted poetess, Samreen Nadeem Samar.
