UN: Gaza Strip faces shortage of livelihood opportunities, limited shelter

New York, July 02 (QNA) – The United Nations (UN) has renewed its warning over the worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, stating that Palestinians face severe shortages of basic living resources and shelter due to ongoing Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacks.
In a statement, the UN said it has documented several Israeli violations against civilians in Gaza since Sunday. It reported that many families, displaced by recent strikes on schools, have returned to northern Gaza due to a lack of alternative shelter. Five school buildings housing displaced families were bombed by the IOF in the last 48 hours, resulting in deaths and injuries.
The UN highlighted that the IOF frequently issues immediate evacuation warnings in various areas of Gaza. These are often followed within moments by airstrikes, sometimes before residents can evacuate. It stated that dozens of such evacuation orders have been issued in recent months, leaving less than 18 percent of Gaza’s territory for civilians to shelter in.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric reported intensified Israeli operations since the latest evacuation order issued on Sunday. He said at least 1,500 families have been displaced from the north and eastern Gaza Governorate. Dujarric warned that the ongoing conflict and shrinking humanitarian aid are depriving Gaza’s population of survival essentials.
He called for the urgent opening of all crossings and the facilitation of humanitarian operations, including the flow of life-saving supplies. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) also warned that more critical facilities in Gaza may shut down soon if relief does not reach those in need.
