MIRPUR (AJK), June 17 – Mirpur Division Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan has said that all available resources will be utilized to ensure peace, security, and the smooth conduct of religious gatherings across the division during the sanctified month of Muharram-ul-Haram.
He was chairing a high-level meeting on Wednesday to finalize integrated foolproof security, peace, and administrative arrangements aimed at maintaining law and order during Muharram across Mirpur Division.
The meeting focused on ensuring foolproof security for mourning processions and religious gatherings (majalis), maintaining inter-sect harmony, and strengthening coordination among all relevant departments, official sources said.
It was decided that special security measures will be deployed at sensitive locations, Imam Bargahs, and procession routes. Law enforcement agencies, including police and district administration, will work under a unified strategy to safeguard lives and property.
The meeting also emphasized strict monitoring of social media to curb hate speech and content that could disturb sectarian harmony. Authorities warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in spreading sectarian hatred or incitement online.
Contingency plans were reviewed to address any potential security threats, including terrorism or sabotage. Security agencies were directed to remain on high alert throughout the month, with enhanced surveillance at entry and exit points and continuous monitoring of suspicious activities.
Officials from Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber districts were instructed to maintain close coordination with religious scholars, community leaders, and organizers of majalis to ensure smooth implementation of security arrangements and promote peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police Mirpur Division Kamran Ali, Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Sajid Hussain, SSP Khurram Iqbal, Special Branch Officer Imtiaz Shoukat, and other senior officials.
Addressing the meeting, Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan said maintaining peace and providing a secure environment for mourners remains the top priority of the administration. He directed all departments to remain fully coordinated, proactive, and timely in implementing preventive measures.
He also appreciated the role of religious scholars and community leaders in maintaining harmony and urged them to continue promoting unity, tolerance, and interfaith respect during Muharram.
