JAKARTA, Aug. 9 — Indonesia has closed the Mount Bromo tourist area in East Java to all tourism activities as a wildfire continues to spread, authorities said.
The Mount Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park authority said the closure took effect at 10 p.m. local time Saturday and will remain in place until further notice.
The wildfire, which broke out on Monday, has affected about 170 hectares of land. The closure was ordered to support firefighting operations and protect visitors from potential risks.
The authority said tourists who purchased tickets for the affected period through the online booking system can reschedule their visits or request refunds.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, while no casualties have been reported.
Mount Bromo is located within a national park in East Java province and is one of Indonesia’s best-known tourist destinations. The area is known for its volcanic landscape and attracts visitors from Indonesia and abroad throughout the year.
Authorities have urged visitors to follow safety instructions and avoid the closed area while firefighting operations continue.
