Pope Francis has embarked on his longest journey as Pontiff, beginning a 12-day, four-nation tour that includes visits to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Singapore. This marks his 45th overseas mission, a significant milestone in his papacy.
On Tuesday, the Pope arrived in Indonesia, the first stop of his tour, where he was greeted with heightened security measures in Jakarta. “Today, I begin an Apostolic Journey to several countries in Asia and Oceania. Please pray that this journey may bear fruit,” the Pope shared on X (formerly Twitter).
After a 13-hour overnight flight from Rome, covering nearly 20,000 miles (approximately 32,000 km), Pope Francis is expected to spend the day resting at the Vatican Embassy in Jakarta before continuing his mission.
