AJK PM Gillani appeals proscribed JKAAC to call off sit-in;

MIRPUR (AJK): August 31; Newly-elected Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime minister Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gilani has appealed to the banned outfit – Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee to call off ‘Dharna’ (sit-in) and follow the path democratic dialogue process.

In an interview to a national electronic media channel, aired on Sunday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’ nominated Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Barrister Iftikhar Gilani, said whole responding to a question about the protest by the proscribed Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, Barrister Iftikhar Gilani said the government would have to move forward while keeping public demands in view, adding that both sides needed to show flexibility in the matter.
“If flexibility is shown by both sides, a final and positive solution to the issue can be found,” he said.

He stressed that engagement and negotiations with people staging protests were a fundamental part of democracy and the political process.

Asked about the strong reaction of senior PML-N AJK leader / President of the party’s AJK unit, Shah Ghulam Qadir to his nomination as prime minister, Barrister Iftikhar Gilani said it was natural for reservations to arise at the time of elections and nominations.

“However, all these issues will be resolved,” he said, expressing hope that all party colleagues would support the party decision.

Talking about roads, hospitals and the provision of basic facilities in the region, he said that if funds were utilized properly and transparently, the pace of development in AJK could be significantly improved.

He reiterated that his popularly electrd government’s development activities of mass public welfare would be further improved and made effective at latest pattern.
